INDATA was very excited to work with Indy Pit Crew and Barkalounge to build a dog park for guide and service dogs that came to the 2010 INDATA Conference last week.
The INDATA Conference brings in people from all over the state of Indiana. Some of those individuals have visual impairments, and they may have sighted guide dogs or service dogs to assist them with getting around.
The conference takes place at the Indiana Convention Center, right in the heart of downtown Indianapolis. INDATA decided to build a dog park for the animals to “do their business” closely outside of the conference area so that they did not have to walk far to find a grassy area.
Indy Pit Crew and Barkalounge stepped up to help us build the 8′ x 8′ dog park right underneath the covered canopy on Maryland Street, and the outcome was a huge success. “I’ve never been to a conference where they thought about people with guide dogs,” said one attendee. “It was very considerate of INDATA and their partners to create such a thing.”
Established in the Fall of 2005, Indy Pit Crew has been working tirelessly to raise public awareness about the plight of the pit bull. Through education and community outreach, Indy Pit Crew combats dog fighting, strives to eliminate pit bull over-population, encourages responsible ownership, while inspiring a better understanding and appreciation for the American Pit Bull Terrier and all Bully Breed dogs.
Barkalounge is Indianapolis’s premier doggy daycare! Our mission is to offer high-quality, affordably-priced day care for dogs by people who love and understand dogs and know the world is a better place because of them! Barkalounge’s highly-trained staff and unique approach to play groups makes it a safe, fun environment for all dogs. They are the only dog daycare fully endorsed by Indy Pit Crew for properly entertaining, socializing and tiring out your pups without overstimulating them or allowing unwanted behaviors. At Barkalounge we firmly believe – a TIRED dog is a GOOD dog!
Thank you for asking us! We had a great time participating and appreciate the opportunity to demonstrate that pit bull owners care deeply about the animal welfare community at large.
