Hi folks. Welcome to “Accessibility Minute”, your weekly look at Assisitive Technology—those clever tools and devices designed to help people who have difficulties with vision, mobility, hearing or other special needs.
Sometimes we take for granted the ability to grab a calculator for tasks that range from adding up our grocery tab to performing advanced calculus functions in college. For people who are blind or visually impaired, often times a standard screen isn’t useful. For some people with learning disabilities, the information presented on the visual display doesn’t make sense.
Talking calculators are available in prices ranging from $10-15 dollars up to a few hundred dollars and offering basic add, subtract, multiply and divide functionality up through very sophisticated mathematical functions. Check our show notes for some links to talking calculators.
