This post is a follow up to the Center for Assistive Technology Act Data Assistance’s article written earlier this year about Zoe Guglielmo, a little girl with disabilities. Her mother, Rachel, came to us here at the INDATA Project looking for an adaptive tricycle. All the places she had previously looked at were retailing tricycles at near $1000. When she came to the INDATA Project, luckily someone had donated a previously used one that their child had outgrown. Zoe and her siblings were so excited when they received they tricycle.
Via email we got in contact with Rachel and asked her a few questions regarding the current state of Zoe and the tricycle. We are happy to share some wonderful updates and feedback! When asked how Zoe is enjoying the tricycle, Rachel responded saying Zoe is constantly talking about her impressive bike riding skills and always asks to go ride her tricycle. Whenever the weather is warm Zoe is outside two to three times a week taking a spin on the tricycle.
Rachel said as a mother she feels that the tricycle is very safe and stable for Zoe. It is however very heavy, so it is not always fun to transport it back and forth from the car to the garage- but totally worth it! When asked if Rachel would recommend this device to other potential interested families she said, “Absolutely! It is fantastic for Zoe to be able to ride alongside her brother and sister and to have access to an activity that kids enjoy so much. She would not have access to it otherwise. It’s also a great way for Zoe to be outside and exercising her legs in a way that is fun for her.” Zoe is constantly screaming “WHEEEEE” as they go down the hill towards their home.
Rachel was happy to report that all is well with Zoe. It’s so wonderful that such a bright and happy little girl like Zoe was able to receive this wonderful device.
