Hi folks. Welcome to “Accessibility Minute”, your weekly look at Assisitive Technology—those clever tools and devices designed to help people who have difficulties with vision, mobility, hearing or other special needs.

Have you ever seen or heard the term A-1-1-Y?  It’s an internet shorthand term that stands for computer accessibility.  If you search on the web or twitter for the term you’ll find an enormous amount of information that relates to how computer software and websites can be designed to be more accessible to folks with disabilities.  Areas of accommodation that a11y addresses include cognition, hearing, vision and mobility.  So type A-1-1-y into your search engine and find out more about computer accessibility!  Oh, the 11 in the middle stands for the eleven letters that have been removed from the word accessibility.
