Show Notes
Hi folks. Welcome to “Accessibility Minute”, your weekly look at Assisitive Technology—those clever tools and devices designed to help people who have difficulties with vision, mobility, hearing or other special needs.
From the Greek words meaning “work” and “natural laws,” Ergonomics refers to designing equipment and devices in such a way as to fit the human body and people’s cognitive abilities. This is an issue for everybody but is particularly important in the field of assistive technology. If a tool or piece of furniture doesn’t fit properly, the assistive nature of it is useless–especially if that poor fit causes injury or other harm to the user. If you use a Braille display, a wheelchair, an adaptive keyboard or other assistive technology, do a little research to make sure that the “fit” or “ergonomics” of the situation is appropriate. Check our show notes for a link to learn more.
