178-04-08-16 Nesel Packs Backpacks
Hey there! Welcome to the new and improved Accessibility Minute–your weekly look at Assistive Technology, those clever tools and devices designed to help people who have difficulties with vision, mobility, hearing or other special needs!
You spoke and I listened–Many of you felt I should extend my show past 60 seconds, to give you a better, more in-depth look into the wondrous world of assistive technology. So from here on out, the show may exceed 60 seconds. Thank you for the feedback–I absolutely love hearing from you guys!
Now onto today’s exciting topic: Nesel Packs. Nesel Packs is a company founded last fall as part of an Entrepreneurship in Action class at the University of Minnesota. The company has designed the world’s first backpack designed specifically for students on the autism spectrum. According to their website, “Our backpack is designed to ensure children feel comfortable and secure at all times, while being durable and long-lasting for everything a kid can throw at it.”
The Nesel Pack is a play on the word “nestle” and features thick straps and weighted pouches to mimic a compression vest and help with body awareness. There are clips on the front to attach sensory toys like chewies and fidgets. To learn more about Nesel Packs–spelled N-E-S-E-L, visit NeselPacks.com.
