Hey there! Welcome to Accessibility Minute, your weekly look at Assistive Technology, those clever tools and devices designed to help people who have difficulties with vision, mobility, hearing or other special needs!

A while back, I wrote about OrCam on our blog, but at that time, the product hadn’t yet launched in the United States. Now that it has, I feel it necessary to revisit the revolutionary device. So, what is OrCam? According to its website, it is an “intuitive wearable device with a smart camera designed to assist people who are visually impaired.”

OrCam is easy to use, as the device responds to an intuitive gesture, such as simply pointing your finger. With OrCam, you can read newspapers, books, computer screens, menus–virtually any printed text in real time! It also has the ability to recognize known faces, personal objects, with more capabilities coming soon!
