211-11-25-16 Selfie Pay/Identity Check Mobile by Mastercard
Hey there! Welcome to Accessibility Minute, your weekly look at Assistive Technology, those clever tools and devices designed to help people who have difficulties with vision, mobility, hearing or other special needs!
Shopping online is arguably much easier than going out, shopping, and waiting in long lines for checkout. Soon, online shopping may get even more convenient with Mastercard’s “Identity Check Mobile” also known as “Selfie Pay.” With Selfie Pay, individuals will be able to verify their payment by simply taking a selfie!
This new payment method has the potential to benefit many individuals who:
– Have poor motor skills
– Are amputees
– Have visual impairments
– And much more!
To get started, simply download the Identity Check Mobile app. You’ll then be prompted to take a selfie. Doing so helps the service create a digitized map of your face. Your face is then securely stored on Mastercard’s servers, and now you’ll just have to take a selfie to verify payments in the future.
The service is available in Europe, and Mastercard hopes to launch the app globally in 2017. Visit Mastercard.com to learn more. http://newsroom.mastercard.com/press-releases/mastercard-identity-check-to-simplify-and-strengthen-online-shopping/
