Hey there! Welcome to Accessibility Minute, your weekly look at Assistive Technology, those clever tools and devices designed to help people who have difficulties with vision, mobility, hearing or other special needs!
Losing mobility due to diagnoses like muscular dystrophy, spinal cord injury, ALS and more, can be very challenging to say the least. Fortunately, there are countless assistive technologies available to help these individuals. JACO from Kinova Assistive Robotics is one super cool example of this technology.
JACO is a 6-axis robotic manipulator arm with a 3-fingered hand. It was engineered to “significantly improve the lives of persons with reduced mobility by assisting anyone with an upper body mobility impairment to perform complex actions.”
Once JACO is attached to a wheelchair, it can help the user feed him or herself, pick items up off the floor, open doors, reach items on a shelf, and much much more!
There’s far too much to discuss about JACO and Kinova Assistive Robotics to fit in on this podcast, so be sure to check out KinovaRobotics.Com to learn more!
