Electromyography, more commonly known as EMG, is “the measurement of electrical activity associated with the activation of a muscle group as detected by non-invasive electrodes on the surface of the skin…” The NeuroNode takes EMG technology and transforms it into an assistive communication and control device for individuals living with paralysis and loss of speech.
The NeuroNode is a non-invasive, wireless sensor which is placed over the muscle chosen to be the switch. Once the user attempts to move that muscle, the NeuroNode detects bioelectrical (EMG) signals. The device then takes these signals to allow the user to control his or her computer, tablet, or cellular device. It picks up the bioelectrical signals even if there’s no visible physical movement; this makes it ideal for individuals with ALS, cerebral palsy, and more.
