Hey there! Welcome to Accessibility Minute, your weekly look at Assistive Technology, those clever tools and devices designed to help people who have difficulties with vision, mobility, hearing or other special needs!
Looking for an app to make learning words simple and fun? Check out the WordToob app! WordToob is a video modeling app that makes learning new words fun for children of all ages and abilities.
According to the developer’s website, “Learning language requires combined information from the senses, whether just beginning to learn one’s native language or learning a second language.” The app makes learning words simple by pairing words with illustrative videos. In addition to the library of videos found within the app, users can also create their own personalized videos.
Other features of the WordToob app include:
- While using the app, users can:
- Learn new words
- Recognize words they hear
- Improve articulation
- Studies show that skills taught through video modeling are learned faster; this is especially true for individuals with autism
- Video modeling has been used to teach communication skills, social skills, perception of emotion, adaptive skills and more
Check it out on the App Store to learn more!
