Hey there! Welcome to Accessibility Minute, your weekly look at Assistive Technology, those clever tools and devices designed to help people who have difficulties with vision, mobility, hearing or other special needs!

Did you know that over half of communication is visual (e.g. facial expressions, lip reading, etc.)? Prior to this pandemic, and seeing everyone in masks, I never realized how much I relied on lip reading and facial emotions for a standard conversation!  The ClearMask is a new transparent solution that protects the user like a standard mask – but with full-face visibility!

The ClearMask is a full-face transparent surgical mask making “healthcare more human by improving whole-face communication for more compassionate, inclusive connections.”

Features of the ClearMask:

  • According to the product’s website, “Our mask has a smart, patent-pending design optimized for comfort and breathability while providing assured protection”
  • Blocks aerosols, fluids, and sprays from our faces
  • Mask is for single-use only and cannot be reused
  • And much more!

The mask is being made available to hospitals and medical facilities first.  However, you can pre-order your very own ClearMask by visiting TheClearMask.com/pre-order.
