GyroGlove™ Aims to Provide Hand Tremor Relief

Essential tremor, the most common type of tremor that causes involuntary and rhythmic shaking or trembling most obvious in the hands and forearms, affects up to 5% of people worldwide and an estimated 7-10 million people in the U.S.

Experts also predict that nearly 1 million people in the U.S. are currently affected by the neurodegenerative disorder Parkinson’s Disease, similarly identified by uncontrollable tremors and other motor-related symptoms.

For those living with tremor disorders, it can be incredibly debilitating to perform everyday tasks and activities, such as holding a cup of coffee, buttoning a shirt or using a computer mouse.

But there is hope. At the annual tech trade show CES 2024, the GyroGlove™ was introduced, winning several CES Innovation Awards (in the categories of Accessibility & Aging Tech, Digital Health and Wearable Technology) and making the internationally-recognized technology news site Engadget’s coveted list of the Best of CES 2024.

Gyroscopic Technology

The GyroGlove™ is touted as the world’s best hand stabilizer on the market, as it’s designed to temporarily provide relief to individuals suffering from chronic hand tremors.

The wrist-worn glove significantly reduces hand tremors instantly through the use of a gyroscope in a stabilization module.

The non-invasive wearable assistive technology (AT) glove uses this powerful gyroscopic force to help those with hand tremors minimize and counteract the shakes. It’s shaped by Cambridge Maths and Imperial College development and enriched by NASA, Harvard-MIT, Cambridge and Oxford insights.

In fact, the gyroscope rotates four times faster than jet engine turbines, endures 11 billion revolutions during the device’s three-year lifespan and provides 100 times precision that surpasses a computer drive.

Mobility, Stability and a Perfect Fit

Using the GyroGlove™ provides instant relief right at an individuals’ fingertips 24/7. Based on usage, the GyroGlove™ works on four hours of continuous use or 10 hours of intermittent use on a single charge.

For ease, GyroGlove™ is decked out with a friendly interface, comfy touch points, oversized mounts and attachments and a simple magnetic connector.

Designed with comfort and agility in mind, the GyroGlove™ can be created for left or right hands and comes in sizes small, medium and large, ensuring a perfect fit for the wearer.

The lightweight and breathable material even rivals top yoga, athleisure and sportswear brands with its stretchy, soft and spongy material.

What’s Next

While the GyroGlove™ does not come cheap — retailing at $5,899 — the makers behind the product are looking to make the glove more affordable and accessible.

The creators are currently in talks with a variety of American insurance providers, which could lead to it being provided under insurance for those who need it most.

GyroGlove™ is revolutionary, and is allowing individuals affected by tremor disorders to regain their confidence, take back their control and be independent once again. Sue Whitehouse of the UK and GyroGlove™ user states, “There are all sorts of things I can’t do, but the GyroGlove™ is going to enable me to keep more of my independence, instead of losing it day by day.”
