Falls rank among the leading causes of death for older adults. Even in an assisted living community, seniors are often too far from an emergency button or too disoriented to call for help.
The Nobi smart lamp serves as a guardian angel, with optical sensors that give it a clear view of rooms both day and night. Nobi can also detect if someone is lying in an unusual position using 18 coordinates pinpointed on the human body.
Nobi allows for two-way communication between the lamp’s users and their caregivers / assisted living staff. When it detects a fall, Nobi asks the user if they fell, and any response other than a clear “no” prompts the lamp to push alerts to caregivers. On average, people receive hands-on help in the room within four minutes.
Most falls happen at night due to darkness and disorientation. Nobi detects movement so that whenever a user sits up in bed, it automatically shines a soft light that then intensifies as they move throughout the room, ensuring a clear, visible path.
Nobi identifies users in four modes — in bed, out of bed, in room, out of room. This not only helps prevent falls but leads to less need for intrusive check-ins from caregivers.
Nobi also conducts sleep reports, which help caregivers and medical professionals anticipate seniors’ daily health conditions and prepare for fall prevention.
Each Nobi lamp handles all of its computing on its own processor. Therefore, it doesn’t share any images or data with any cloud or server, guaranteeing user privacy. Users can also set the lamp to display themselves as an anonymized stick figure, ensuring further privacy.
