In 2019, 13% of adults aged 18 and over had some difficulty hearing even when using a hearing aid according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Additionally, 1.6% either had a lot of difficulty hearing or could not hear at all, even when using a hearing aid.
As one of the five main human senses, hearing plays an important role in quality of life. It is proven to factor into issues like loneliness, falls, cognitive decline, depression and more. Listening is a complex process that a normal-hearing brain handles effortlessly, but that breaks down when an individual has hearing loss.
Starkey’s new hearing aids, Genesis AI, uses artificial intelligence technology to mimic the brain’s auditory cortex to overcome hearing breakdown. It classifies complex soundscapes, enhances speech, and reduces noise in real-time with advanced and powerful AI.
Trained on millions of sounds to distinguish those of interest (like someone talking to you) from distracting noises (like clanks, hums or other people’s conversations), the AI inside focuses on the good while diminishing the bad, to deliver a cleaner, purer signal regardless of the environment.
Genesis AI can also be paired with the My Starkey app. As a control center for the hearing aids, users can change programs and adjust volume easily on either a smartphone or an Apple Watch.
Genesis AI hearing aids can be worn all day and have up to 51 hours of battery life. They are also waterproof (up to 1 meter), and can even detect falls while alerting family or friends.
