Indiana continues to grow in accessibility. The Zionsville Town Council recently approved the creation of an advisory committee on disability.
With roughly 19% of Indiana’s population composed of people with disabilities, this committee will be serving a statistical average of 6,000 Zionsville residents.
Zionsville officials, such as District 24 State Rep. Becky Cash, are pushing for the committee to include people with disabilities as advisors.
Right now, the committee’s directives include:
- Organizing Zionsville’s Disability Awareness Month campaign and events.
- Reviewing the town’s current services, policies, practices and projects that could impact residents with disabilities.
- Partnering with local service providers to increase employment for residents with disabilities.
- Working with local leaders and community organizations to increase accessibility and create a culture of inclusion.
