191-07-08-16 EyeOn App
Hey there! Welcome to Accessibility Minute, your weekly look at Assistive Technology, those clever tools and devices designed to help people who have difficulties with vision, mobility, hearing or other special needs!
“Help! I’ve fallen and I can’t get up!” I am sure you’ve seen or heard of this commercial by now. If not, it’s about a product that allows users to press a button when needing assistance. The EyeOn app takes this idea, but instead of requiring users to wear and press a button, it works with your smartphone and will check in with you at the times you prefer. If you don’t respond in a certain amount of time, then the app will contact your assigned care providers.
The caregivers will receive an email, text message, or both stating that you haven’t responded, last known location (email only) and the battery level of your phone (email only). You can set your own schedule for when you’d like the app to check in with you. You can customize the days of the week and times. “For example, the app can ask if you’re okay every hour, only in the mornings/evenings, or every other day.”
