Hey there! Welcome to Accessibility Minute, your weekly look at Assistive Technology, those clever tools and devices designed to help people who have difficulties with vision, mobility, hearing or other special needs!
Are you familiar with “stimming behavior?” If you’ve tapped your pencil, bitten your nails, tapped your foot, etc.– you have exhibited this behavior. This behavior is often present with those with anxiety, ADHD, and especially those with autism. Many individuals with autism stim to help themselves manage anxiety, fear, anger and other negative emotions. It’s how they handle overwhelming sensory input (such as too much noise, light, heat, etc.) Stimtastic is a company offering affordable stim toys, chewable jewelry, and fidgets for anyone who stims!
Stimtastic is founded by Cynthia Kim, an individual with autism, and said her company offers products to “celebrate stimming as a natural part of our lives.” If you read our blog, then you’ve probably already heard of Stimtastic. Whether you’re familiar or not, I wanted to highlight the company in this week’s Accessibility Minute to inform the world about the company and its cause.
