I mentioned Inclusive TLC on last week’s iClick post. You’ll probably hear more about the company in future posts as they offer a wide assortment of assistive technology products. They offer switches, hardware, software, apps, and more — all designed to benefit those with special needs. I’m going to cover their ready-made ChooseIt! apps available as a bundle on the App Store.
ChooseIt! Education App Bundle:
The ChooseIt! Education App bundle features three activity sets. They are each based off of Inclusive Technology’s BETT award-winning ChooseIt! Ready-made software. The bundle offers a comprehensive coverage of K-5 curriculum in the following subjects:
- Literacy
- Numeracy
- Science
1. ChooseIt! Literacy:
First up is the ChooseIt! Literacy app. The Literacy app covers “eight different key areas to help develop and consolidate basic skills and takes a traditional approach to phonics.”
What it covers:
- Listening skills
- Initial sounds
- Recognition of written letters
- Initial blend sounds
- Recognition of written blends
- Tricky high-frequency words
- Everyday words
ChooseIt! Literacy Features:
- Accessible using touch or single and two-switch scanning.
- “Designed by experienced teachers to provide a structured approach to basic literacy using tried and tested approaches to phonics where required.”
- More than 250 activities with over 5,000 pages of simple multiple choice activities.
- Basic, consistent interface makes it user-friendly for users of all ages and abilities.
- Minimal distraction layout keeps child on task.
- Ideal for learners with visual and perceptual difficulties.
- Ability to save results to the camera roll.
2. ChooseIt! Numeracy:
The ChooseIt! Numeracy app includes over 230 activities with over 6,000 pages of simple multiple choice activities. The activities map directly to pre-numeracy and numeracy targets.
What activities cover:
- 25 activities cover color, 2D and 3D shape, positional words, opposites, sequencing shapes, and time awareness (non-clock time).
- 21 activities cover matching and recognition of geometric 2D and 3D shapes, sequencing shapes, counting sides, nets, weight, length, capacity, and planes and symmetry.
- 32 activities “designed to give pupils revision in their knowledge learned in practical lessons about numbers 1 to 3.”
- Graded activities covering comparison of quantity, counting sets of objects, counting on, numeral recognition and matching sets to numerals. They are broken down in three different ways:
- 1. Numbers 0 to 5
- 2. Numbers 5 to 10
- 3. Numbers 0 to 100
- 24 activities around time, from times on the hour up to counting on and back in units of 5 minutes, and everything in between.
- Many time activities allow users to choose between analogue or digital clocks.
- There is even an activity on weeks, months, and seasons.
ChooseIt! Numeracy Features:
- Accessible using touch or single and two-switch scanning.
- Designed to provide a structured approach to basic number and space concepts and associated language.
- Clear spoken and written questions. Use the speaker button to repeat question.
- Basic, consistent interface makes it user-friendly for users of all ages and abilities.
- Minimal distraction layout encourages student to stay on task.
- Real voice recorded audio to model good pronunciation.
- Can notify when child is ready to move on, or if he or she needs more practice or should try easier activity.
- Ability to save results to camera roll.
3. ChooseIt! Science:
The ChooseIt! Science app contains over 160 activities with 3,000+ pages of simple multiple choice activities.
What activities cover:
- 32 simple activities which introduce topics of humans, animals, and plants. A few cover the environment.
- 38 slightly harder activities which “develop the knowledge gained from the previous activity set.”
- 30 activities cover materials from everyday life and their properties.
- 31 activities cover topics of earth and space, light and sound.
