As people with disabilities navigate the world, accessibility is vital. For example, if the only entrance to a venue has stairs, many people could be excluded entirely from all events in that space — to the detriment of the whole community.
AccessAbleUSA aims to prevent situations like this and empower people with disabilities to access more places — and opportunities — that make them an equal part of society. The company provides Detailed Access Guides on a vast variety of venues “so you can decide if somewhere will work well for you.”
As AccessAbleUSA Founder Dr. Gregory Burke said: “We show that there are venues you can go to. You can go to the cinema, you can go to the theater, you can get onto the train station, you can go to that job interview if you have to go there by rail because you can see exactly what it’s going to be like there and what you’re going to experience.”
The Detailed Access Guides consist of facts, figures (accessibility symbols like the one below), and photographs. (Visit this page to learn how to search for accessibility information through AccessAbleUSA’s website.)
In an effort to provide even more detailed accessibility information in the future, AccessAbleUSA invites you to participate in the following survey regarding what you hope to find when researching the accessibility of places you aim to visit.
