The deadline for the Fred Scheigert Scholarship Program is just around the corner. Scheigert, who was legally blind, could be spotted wearing his signature binoculars as he cheered on his champion stable at horse racing tracks across the country.

The Council of Citizens with Low Vision International (CCLVI), an affiliate of the American Council of the Blind, annually awards four Scheigert scholarships in the amount of $3,000 each to full-time college students. These scholarships are awarded to freshman, undergraduate and graduate students, all of whom must be low vision, maintain a strong GPA and be involved in school/local community activities.

Finalists will be selected to participate in a telephone interview with CCLVI committee members. Recipients will be notified in late spring. Recipients are then expected to attend the CCLVI annual conference and convention, which is held in conjunction with the American Council of the Blind National Conference and Convention and generally takes place the first week in July.

Applications are now available to complete and submit online. Application materials must be received by 11:59 p.m. Eastern time February 15, 2025. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Scholarship monies will be awarded for the 2025-2026 academic year. To access the guidelines and application, visit www.cclvi.org. For any questions or concerns, call 1-844-460-0625.
